Waiting for SantaPastel on Sanded Paper

The holiday shows are coming up, and I puzzled over what to paint to enter in to at least one of them. Last year, I caught our SassyCat under the tree, and used that photo as the reference for this painting. I'm a bit unhappy, though, with the white specks showing through where the paper did not hold the pastel; it's a brand I don't normally use and after this result, I won't buy any more of it. It's one of the interesting and challenging things about trying new products....you never know how well they'll work until you try.
Other than that, I'm happy that it looks so much like Sassy. This is the first time I've tried painting an animal. Given the result, I'll try it again!

Adorable! (My cat loves to sleep under the tree during the holiday, too! Although what she really likes is to play with the ornaments & pull the tree down!)
